Option to draw rectangle in Sketch Tab of Creo Drawings

Option to draw rectangle in Sketch Tab of Creo Drawings

We have many users that would like to have the option to draw a rectangle in the Sketcher Tab of Creo Drawings.  I believe it could also be applied to drawing symbols.  There is the option to draw a line, circle, ellipse, spline, etc... but seems like a rectangle is a basic and common enough shape to be included in the Sketch Ribbon.  Would be nice to have this included in a future release.

Take it a little further and give us the same options for sketching shapes in drawings as we have in model sketcher.

All 2-D sketching (internal Sketch, independent sketch, drawing sketch) could use the same tools for creating a sketch, editing a sketch and constraining a sketch.

I am on Creo 4 M070 and rectangle has been available in sketch for at least Creo 4.

Along with rectangle, the drop down arrow next to rectangle gives you slanted rectangle, center rectangle and parallelogram.

Check your ribbon options, depending on which creo you are using, you may have it and the icon needs to be added.

Stephen,

Check again! In Model mode, like you show, it is there. This is asking for it to be in Drawing mode sketcher, where it is not.

All sketchers should use the same menus and have the same options.

Sorry, I saw sketcher and I immediately thought of model sketches, not drawing sketches.

I agree with the idea that the "sketch" options in the drawing should be equivalent to the sketcher options for modeling.

Yes please! Additional thoughts:

  • All sketcher modes should have same options and same menus (as much as possible). Including snapping, constraints, dimensions, etc.
  • I would also add to make sure that the sketches publish properly to PDF. Having to draw drawing rectangles using lines today means corners don't publish properly to PDFs today - see image below.
  • Strongly agree with including these same options in the symbol editor. I would also also add a solid fill/hatch command to fill areas of symbols. Fill/hatch a closed shape or between 2 closed shapes. I do a lot of my symbol Creation in AutoCAD or some other software today because the Creo symbol creation tool is so limited.

Status changed to: Delivered

Hi @rsoukup ,

In Creo 8.0 we have introduced several new sketching tool into the drawing environment. among the other new tools, it also now includes a few new tools for sketching several types of rectangles:

Sketching tools.jpg

These tools were not yet implemented into the symbol editor environment, but it is an item that is on my list and would be considered when we will get to modernize the symbol editor. Since there is a dedicated product idea for the editor that captures the sketching tools as well, I am updating the status of this product idea to "Delivered"

Best Regards,

Michael
