PTC Creo Simulation: Run settings

PTC Creo Simulation: Run settings

In PTC Creo Simulation, it would be extremely advantageous to be able to specify run settings on a design study basis.   By doing this one would be able to specify a unique previous mesh for a number of studies.  Then one could run a batch file over the weekend for one model with multiple mesh configurations.

Also, one could specify the design study file location on a design study basis.  This would allow a local directory to be specified for design studies currently being run and another location for archived results when local drives become full.

Can you expand a little bit? Simulate already allows for batching simulations. I think this is what you are asking for? Also you should vote on your own idea.

I realize the batch function is there.  However, if one specifies in the run settings to use a previous mesh, it will use this mesh for every design study in the batch.   If one wished to use a different previous mesh for each design study in your batch file, you cannot.

I think you can, you just need to specify a different batch file. Am I understanding you right? When I do this, I create a batch that calls the other batch files. Something like the text below gets put into a file called run_batch.bat:

ECHO time: %time%

ECHO Starting Modal!

CALL ./Modal/mecbatch.bat

ECHO time: %time%

ECHO Modal completed!

ECHO Starting Static!

CALL ./Static/mecbatch.bat

ECHO time: %time%

ECHO Static completed!

Correct me if I am wrong but calling different batch files will not solve the problem as each separate batch file will still go back to the design study which will be governed by the run setting which will be the same for each design study whether they are in the same batch file or different ones.

I guess I am still a little confused what you are trying to achieve here. I am not sure what you mean by "go back to the design study which will be governed by the run setting which will be the same ..." Each study is self contained unless you make it dependent upon another analysis (such as being dependent on a modal analysis when running a dynamic study). Each study backs up the CAD models, run configurations, etc into its own sub-folder.

When you say "run settings" what settings are you referring to? RAM allocation (stored in the mecbatch.bat file), mesh definition, boundary conditions, etc are all uniquely stored for each study. With the batch file method, you can also specify multiple studies on multiple drives (local vs network if you want).

the BATCH command actually needs a User Interface where you can set run controls

- don't get me wrong, arcane DOS is better than nothing but its 2016 ...
