Parameter Table Column for Inputs in Model Program

Parameter Table Column for Inputs in Model Program

We use Creo 7 for automated CAD & Drawing creation, & one of the tools we use often is the Input section of the Model Program.

Manually typing Inputs into the Model Program is time-consuming. Additionally, Editing or removing them from the Input section is equally time-consuming. Since the parameters that are added to the Input Section of the Model Program are already created & listed in the Parameter table, it seems like there should be a quicker solution.

My Suggestion is adding a Parameter Table Column 'Input', which would function similar to the Designate Column. The 'Input" Column would include a check-box which, when selected, would Automatically insert that Parameter into the Input Section of the Model Program. Additionally, un-checking the box would remove that Input from the Input Section of the Model Program.

This would bypass the need to enter/exit the Model Program every time a new Input was added or existing Input was edited. This would also eliminate the time spent manually typing in parameters that already exist in the Parameter Table.

I'm interested in what others that use inputs think about this, & if they've found a better way to add inputs to there Model Program.

It is possible to creatively use IF statements so you are only prompted for a certain value if it's outside of the desired range.  This works well if starting from a template and you want the user prompted for an input once, but not again after the proper value has been entered.

Frankly, we've stopped using Pro/Program altogether and now use SmartAssembly.  It's much more powerful.  Don't get hung up on the name - it can be used for all kinds of stuff, parts, drawings, assemblies, UDFs, Excel file manipulation, etc.  It's essentially a programming language with the power of Toolkit (C++) but with the simplicity of Pro/Program or Relations statements.

Another automation option is Nitro Cell.  I haven't used it, but it also appears to be quite powerful, and there is even a free version.
