REPAIR CREO VIEW 3.1 REGRESSION IN PERFORMANCE - SELECTING CHILDREN -> POPULATE ATTRIBUTE TABLE

REPAIR CREO VIEW 3.1 REGRESSION IN PERFORMANCE - SELECTING CHILDREN -> POPULATE ATTRIBUTE TABLE

We created https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/case.jsp?n=13254764 which may not be viewable to all customers.  The idea is to provide a mechanism to control what is populated into the attributes table when selecting children in the model tree.  The current downfall is that if you select children on a large assembly, you can experience a long delay before the table is populated and Creo View is unresponsive at this time.  (Note: I'm assuming the delay is due to the population of the attribute table...PTC development needs to confirm.)  It would be nice to a solution where I can select/define which columns of attributes automatically populate into the table when selecting objects in the model tree.  There is very nice functionality within that attribute table with copy functionality and enabling pasting into Microsoft applications for future report and interrogation.  I would like to take advantage of it.  Microsoft didn't like the 7000 pages by about 2000 columns pasted into excel.

It's also worth noting that we have been doing this process over the past few builds of Creo View 2, 3 and 3.1.  Something has changed in 3.1 to make the unresponsive time much worse so at the very least I would like to get the performance back that we had in previous version.

Ok...sometimes you just have to go thru the steps to figure out what the developers keep improving and putting into this software!  I have found a way to filter down the attributes that I'm asking for above...so maybe I've answered my own request.

Here are screenshots of the workflow that I'm trying to really do...which is create a bill of material based on what is visible on the screen.  We can load up 26 full truck assemblies concurrently and I only want the bill of material attribute information from what I'm seeing in the graphics area.

Reference this product idea - Add Creo View Bill of Material Functionality - Generate BOM based on Box Selection or Selected Components

Below are screen shots of the workflow and steps I've found in the new version of Creo View 3.1.

  1. Set up the model tree filter as shown below

2. Select top node in assembly and then use select children follow up by a control select of top node to acquire selection of all items and model tree that is visible in current view.

3.  In attributes table RMB select on top header column to gain access to menu.

4.  Apply settings to filter down to the category of items you want to see in the attributes table.

5. In the attributes table, you have the capability to select the metadata of all rows and copy the values out of Creo View for access into other applications like Microsoft Excel.  From this point, a lot of manipulation and reports can be done.
