RMB; Make Internal Section an External Sketch

RMB; Make Internal Section an External Sketch

When clicking the RMB on a Section within a Geometry Feature, allow the section to become a Sketch feature placed before the feature it was associated with.  Then replace the geometry feature's Section with the newly created Sketch feature.

This idea will allow references from once internal sketches (sections) to be accessed during new feature creation by making the sketch unhidden.  Currently, section features, for the most part, are not accessible when they are created as internal sections.

The other 3 options are already available;

  • You can unlink an external sketch to make it an internal section
  • You can replace an internal section with a sketch
  • You can delete external sketches once it is unlinked in a feature while preserving the model.

The only thing we cannot do is simply make the Section a Sketch with a single command.

The work around is not pretty at all:

  • Edit definition of the section and save it as a .sec file
  • Create a sketch from the saved .sec file and re-associate it (and orient it correctly).
  • Move the sketch before the geometry feature
  • Edit the geometry feature again to replace the internal section with the newly created sketch

If this is already possible, please enlighten me on where this functionality exists.

Did we not use to have the ability to make sections visible?

This is a great idea!

We have a lot users who are old Catia users who miss this functionnality in Creo

I agree that this is a valuable enhancement idea. While not part of our current implementation projects for Creo 8.0, I added it to our candidate lists for the roadmap going forward
