Searchable Viewables - PDF

Searchable Viewables - PDF

It would be useful to get viewable Drawings as searchable.

A PDF drawing searchable would help users to locate some text (view name, notes, part bom flag) or dimension in some heavy big format from PDF Reader (CTRL-F).

The same from eDrawings.

At least this feature should be available from creo elements direct Task Agent.

If you mean that Drafting and Annotation should write the texts as text and not as lines in a PDF, I fully support your idea.

I like the idea, but the problem is that to do it you would have to convert the text on the drawing to text, which would change it's appearance in cases where the font used on the drawing does not match a standard font. You would never be able to guarantee that the PDF drawing would like identical to the drawing you see in Annotation/Drafting.

The Drafting native file does contain the text to be tagged, including its location, isn't?

Could be also an option to decide which text (or dimension, or info) to be tagged for PDF production (all, select or none).

Are you asking if a drawing can be converted to a searchable PDF?

Yes I'm.

I would like to search in a PDF drawing for some text or dimension or any other textual info (View, Attention, BOM flag text info, etc.).

What version or Pro/E are you using and then I can help you from there.

I'm not using Pro/E but rather creo elements direct Modeling and Drafting (formely CoCreate).

YES, the Texts are contained as "text" in the MI File, together with a reference to the Font.

However, PDF is created by *plotting* through a PDF Driver, so this is why the PDF file

contains "graphics".

Task Agent cannot do more than using the CAD (=Drafting) to generate the PDF.

So the desired capabilty is either possible with Drafting or it is not possible at all.

Yes Max, I'm asking about more on Drafting and Annotation, so that Task Agent could inherate such a flavor. PDF 2D production enhancement.

Drafting and Annotation are able to use standard fonts by translation on the fly. Therefore, by using these standard fonts, the plotting through this PDF driver could be done in such a way that MI texts are translated into PDF texts, while keeping exactly the same appearance.

Maybe there are some text attributes in MI that does not exist in PDF (slant, filled, frame, ...). An idea would be to create some flags to manage text plotting, for example:

- allows or not the ability to use every MI text attributes
- warn or not if some text attributes cannot be plotted exactely

- plot text as text or lines

Another idea would be to translate on the fly during the plotting the MI font to a PDF font and embed this font into the PDF file.

We already have this functionality in ProE WF4 and is also in Creo2.  Try to do a save as/save a copy then select the format to be as a pdf.  Make sure to stroke all fonts.

Lauwrence,

This question concerns Creo Elements Direct, not ProE, neither Creo. Unfortunately, Creo Elements Direct does not have the fonctionality you have described. And this is what we need.

There is another idea referencing to the same topic:

I am sorry to hear that. I figured it would be the same for Creo Ele. Direct, but evidently not. Hope you get it soon as we have grown to depend on this through multiple departments!

The functionality to have searchable texts in PDF output is important and relevant as improvement for customers.

The solution can add an option like "Add searchable Text" when PDF output is selected (like in Creo Parametric) so the customer can decide if the texts will be maintained od converted in the PDF files

I use the a mapkey export output puff searchable like lsheeler states above but in general column enter monochrome and 600dpi. Works real well only gripe is the Datum test is use on model for marking, connecters etc isn't as clear as I would like.  Other than that it works great.  Anybody any ideas for better datum tests?
