Unlimited quantity of windows/parts/drawings open, not just 15.

Unlimited quantity of windows/parts/drawings open, not just 15.

I am using WF5/Creo. The number of files/drawings to be opened at one time is 15. Is there a reason that you can't have more than this?

Thanks,

Also, when editing a weld symbol - it treats the window as a 16th window. I recieved an error message that I had to many windows open. Try closing a few. I had 15 windows of files open and when I closed one, I was able to edit the weld symbol.

Make the weld symbol editing box not the same type of feature/structure so that you if you have the drawing open currently, you would not get an error and the window would open normally for editing.

April 11, 2013: Beside the window for welding, I just found that if I wanted to add a symbol, that window counts for one of you 15 windows too. I wasn't paying attention to the text line and clicked on the symbol icon, and it wasn't doing anything but silently screaming at me that I have to many windows already open.

Sept 11, 2013: Wanting to add a symbol with 15 windows open bit me again - couldn't figure out why the window wouldn't pop up. See http://communities.ptc.com/ideas/1662

May 8, 2014: Adding an annotation that require a pop-up window is considered the 16th window also. Stop what you're doing, figure out what window you can close out, go back to adding the annotation that you need

Having that many windows open just eats up so much RAM that it isn't efficient to work that way.  I can't see this as being good practice if it were implemented.

DHLewis,  Inefficancy of having that many windows open at one time depends on the size of your models compaired to your computer/graphics card and what you are doing while they are open.  So it may be inefficient for you but much more efficient for someone else with different models and a different setup.

Personally, I don't see much of a need to work on that many at one time because I have trouble keeping them straight, but I routinely open that many in order to print them.  If I have an ECN with 35 dwgs and I want to print them to pdf (or hard copy) for mfg purposes, I like being able to tell PDMLink to open them all, and then do another task while ProE/Creo is processing to open all those dwgs.  Once it is done I can come back and start creating pdfs of them one by one.  This is much more efficient than opening, waiting, creating pdf, waiting, closing, opening, waiting, etc.

When I read the topic I thought the poster actually wanted to limit the max no of windows open. But after reading the idea it turns out the limit should be expanded or removed.

I would suggest to change the idea title so that it is clear what you want to achieve.
