Following the PTC support tutorial for Modify Size, it is possible to modify the size of a part and as expected, all instances of that same part follow that modification. This modification works for both parts that are reused in AFX or reused via (reference) patterns.
This doesn't work for changing the type of a part. The tutorial for Modify Type shows the action for only one part. What we have found so far is that :
The type of an AFX profile that is in a (reference) pattern can't be modified. The only workaround seems to be to delete the pattern, modify the type and then re-apply the pattern. Any possible consequence on e.g. simplified representations and drawings such as balloon references, partial view references make this method less than ideal.
The type of an AFX profile component that is reused by sing the AFX user interface can be modified on a particular instance of that profile, but this modification will only be applied to that one instance, copied into a new component. A designer intending to modify the type of every instance of a component has no option to do this, except by modifying one instance, thereby creating a new part, and the replace all instances manually by that new part.
Modifying the type of even a single profile always replaces the part by a new one instead of modifying it.
This behaviour is found in Creo 5.0, and we believe this wasn't a problem in Creo 3.0
Shouldn't there be a way to really modify the type of all instances of a particular part, also when it's in a pattern ?
