Idea : Creo's ACIS for export needs to be updated to a newer version.   1. What version of the software are you running? Currently running Creo 7.0.8.0. 2. What is the problem? As mentionned in the article CS46137, the latest supported ACIS version for .sat export is the 7 (which is 20 years old). Some software using .sat files are not compatible anymore with this old version. 3. Are you using a workaround? If yes, please describe it. No workaround. 4. What is the use case for your organization? Describe how your idea would work in context or how it would apply to a practical situation. We need to be able to export some geometry to other software that uses .sat files. Creo's current ACIS version is too old for that. 5. What impact does this problem currently have on your organization? (Number of users affected, hours of lost productivity, etc.) We can't use geometry made with Creo on those software using .sat files. Creo-MBD -- Boost PMI usage by user based attributes Digitalization, in engineering by Model Based Definition leads instantly to the questions beyond standard quality characteristics on the CAD model: how to track/handle/identify detached data sets of the CAD-model in data network and/or in diverse post processes/systems how to  enrich standard semantic information set in PMIs to support processing topics in workflows, indicators/hints,  machining issues, analysis, manufacturing, ... This is not in contradiction with given data models in neutral data formats like STEP and JT. All Windchill users within our organization. 2. What version of Creo Parametric are you currently running? 8.0.4.0 and Windchill 12.0.2.0   3. Describe the problem you are trying to solve. Due to the HUGE system/performance benefits of Inseparable Assemblies in a Windchill environment, we would like to have the ability to default to Inseparable Assemblies when importing STEP files. This would require 2 changes: Add Import as Inseparable assembly to STEP file import menu Add a config.pro setting to allow choosing Inseparable Assembly as the default. 4. What is the use case for your organization? We get STEP files of customer data that can contain 100's or 1000's of parts, and since we reference their data in our machine design we often want to check this data into Windchill. TWICE in the last month we had users check in assemblies with 5000+ new objects pausing our Windchill system for 15+ minutes for all users while the check in completes. These large assembly check ins are made 3x+ slower by using the 'Auto Associate upon Checkin' that creates WTParts. 5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization? Being able to protect our Windchill system by default rather than having to constantly train/remind users to remember to use available tools. Better performance for pretty much all things PDM: Significantly faster check in Less clutter in workspace Less objects to refresh in workspace Less publishing (1 file instead of 100's or 1000's) Users can always unembed files if they need to create separate files. When importing a non-native file, in my example from Inventor, the assigned mass properties are not being transferred to Creo. Feedback from PTC support is that this is technically not possible. Screenshot showing assigned mass prop in Inventor: Trying out the sollution first suggested in the support article did not seem to be working.   This product idea does suggest continuing with such a technique. If the assigned mass property would be copied to a designated custom property in Inventor, then an interface could be provided in Creo Parametric , such as a configuration setting that would enable the value of a fixed parameter (f.e. FINSIHED_WEIGHT) to be copied over as the assigned mass property.   Mind that this example above is a simple block, but purchased components that are used as (multi-body) parts need this assigned mass property to have a correct weight in assemblies and further along the line in PLM. The existing limitation applies both to interactive Creo Parametric and equivalent functionality via the Toolkit API.  A solution is needed for both.   This request applies to all supported versions of Creo Parametric since 3.0, when UNITE support for MultiCAD reuse was introduced.  Today that is Creo 7, 8 and 9. Creo Parametric can directly open SOLIDWORKS parts and assemblies, with or without the Collaboration Extension for SOLIDWORKS.  In this context, 'directly' means opening the .sldasm or .sldprt file, without first translating the non-native models to a neutral format such as STEP.   Like Creo, SOLIDWORKS 3D models may have family tables defined within them.  The SOLIDWORKS terminology for a family table member ('instance' in Creo) is 'configuration'.  A SOLIDWORKS model having no family table has only a single configuration, called Default or some locale-specific variant.  A model's Default configuration is equivalent to Creo's generic part or assembly.   Today Creo can only open the last-saved configuration of a 3D model, even though the .sldprt or .sldasm file may contain any number of other non-default configurations, and each of these may have a very different geometry from the default configuration.  I'm requesting that PTC add support for opening a non-default configuration of a SOLIDWORKS 3D model, by name, both interactively and through the API. The use case is inserting into a Creo assembly a selected model that is defined within the family table of a SOLIDWORKS part or assembly.  Without this capability, the Creo designer can only design around a family table configuration happened to be the last-saved, and often this will not be the one he needs to reference in his Creo assembly. STEP AP242 creation using Creo with native Creo model files: DRV_DIM's lose all parameter values found in native Creo  part file dimension parameters. Semantic view of DRV_DIM shows value and tolerance but this only a symbol and cannot be machine read. Adoption of CREO STEP file process as a neutral file format requires at minimum dimension value, tolerance values and tol type data be retained in STEP AP242 parameters. Competitor products are able to do this and it is a critical requirement for adoption. 4. What is the use case for your organization? Currently GD&T Advisor does not make use of the PMI information stored in STEP AP242 parameters.  Datums, driving dimension, GD&T and mass property information is saved within the STEP AP242 file.  Enhance GD&T Advisor so it pulls in dimensional, tolerance and GD&T data. 4. Model Based Digital Thread:  Using STEP AP242 to share only unrestricted model information between different business units and customers who use different CAD and PLM systems. 5. This product idea is a response to PTC case C16442478 https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/case.jsp?n=16442478   We use shrinkwraps (SW) for simplifying engine and transmission assemblies. Additionally it is a way to go for know-how- protection, too. We found out, that there is a dependency of surface quality of the resulting shrinkwrap and the amount and complexity and even bounding box of the regarded assembly. Even SW- quality can be influenced by some user actions, from a certain complexity of data sets, SW get a very poor quality.   Please refer to case for some examples of surfaces before and after Shrinkwrap creation.   SW quality gets a lot worse, if... ....original assembly has more components, ....original assembly has more complex components, ....original assembly has a bigger bounding box,   Test data shown below was provided by PTC.     Result with same settings but bigger bounding box:   From a certain data size and complexity, for us, the result cannot be used für mockups in whole vehicles, as large surface sets are removed during SW creation. This leads to untrue distance measurements or even indicate free space where originally periferical parts are located but not shown. 4. What is the use case for your organization? It would be great to have a new control option to influence SW creation method. Perhaps the amount of total / kept surfaces could be controlled by user, while classic options (e.g. "Level") keep same values, Last step is importatnt to us, as we must apply same SW level throughout all of our data sets.   5. Reference: Case - C15496755 SPR - 10313631 Article - CS328821   When we export a step file, and check to include "Datums" in includes: 1 - Exploded lines  2 - A new layer for every part that has the same layer. For instance, let's say there are 10 models using layer "3_ALL_AXES". On reimport of the step file, there would be 10 layers with names "3_ALL_AXES_1" through "3_ALL_AXES_10". This makes breaks the whole purpose of layer management. It is a mess. Please fix so we can continue to move forward in our digital transformation journey.      4. What is the use case for your organization? We have the "Datums" checked so we can see export product artwork within the step file. Meaning, we either keep the option and loose layer functionality and show unintended elements, like exploded lined, or we uncheck that option and loose the ability to transfer artwork data (stored as curves). 5. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video.   Creo 9 supports to import ECAD IPC-2581 files,    When Import ECAD silk screen data entitles as quilts, the 2D silk screen layer is under the 3D copper layers and cannot be seen properly. The Silk screen should on the top surface of the 3D copper layers and sold mask layers. Otherwise, it is hard to clearly see and validate the ECAD design. It defeats the propose to import ECAD files into Creo.    To make this feature more useful and better, I think either the silk screen layer should be allowed to be imported as quilts, or at least the silk screen entities should be allowed to place on top of copper layers and sold mask layers.   Converting ECAD Entities as 3D quilt surfaces with multiple layers with thickness allows users to accurate validate design. The thickness is also important for certain product designs.  4. In various applications, the presentation and execution of kinematics are essentual components in order to be able to make the right decisions (e.g. mockup visualization). Often, different software with their own proprietary data formats are used. So far, this often leads to the manual and subsequent implementation of the kinematics for each application.  To avoid huge additional effort and data inconsistencies along the process, it would be a great benefit to use the neutral data format STEP AP242 XML in creo to transfer  kinematic information between different software products. 4. Unused models in drawings can only be deleted one-at-a-time from within the drawing and are only accessible from an old antiquated DOS-like menu.  Unused models can accumulate from drawing revisions and if a drawing is copied and views are edited.  You may not even know you have unused models that are taking up memory.  And if you do know there are unused models in your drawing, it takes an inefficient use of effort and time to remove them.  Modelcheck can be used to strip unused models from a drawing, but that's another step that shouldn't be necessary.  Suggestion:  Modernize the drawing model selection menu and add the ability to select multiple unused models to delete and/or the ability to delete all the unused models at once.   4. This is an enhancement request to support the export of QIF files from Creo Parametric.   We typically use STEP or some other type of neutral file to feed our downstream processes.  Those formats do work, but looking forward we think the QIF format may provide some additional benefits because it's XML-based.  Computers love to read XML.   As of this date, we are on Creo Parametric 4, but I still have not seen any mention of QIF export up through Creo Parametric 7.  Maybe PTC can comment if they have a plan.   Now, this may suggestion may already exist.  I did do a few different searches on PTC Community, but didn't see anything.   Thanks, Keith   PS for those sharp-eyed folks out there, I mistakenly created a "topic" first and not an "idea."  So, you may see both.  This is the "idea" that I'd like PTC to look at. ... Reference: Article: CS367952 Case: C16346041 SPR: 13775001   We import a lot of cad models into Creo; whether for OEM/ODM designs, libraries, vendor tooling designs, etc... Sometimes we get import failures, which flag specific parameters in the part as Failed, the part goes red, and the notification center has a failure. If we delete the failed feature, the model is still in a failed state. We can't reset the part's state even by deleting the failed feature! According to R&D: Model parameter gets set due to import validation error after first retrieval. And this model level parameter cannot be deleted. There is no mechanism to remove model level parameters when a feature is deleted.  These model level parameters are not user deleteable by the user because they are system owned. It was not a workflow that was considered that a user would import a model, and then delete the imported data and then insert a new import feature.   4. What is the use case for your organization? Sometimes we import a feature and it fails. We try to fix it, but we can not. Instead, we may try some other techniques which could include deleting the feature. In this case, the error should be removed. 5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization? it would be great to have a way in Creo when exporting to 3D PDF that we could set the different combined state tabs to be on separate sheets.  Also, if there was a way to set up the 3D PDF with a template that had our company information already setup similar to a drawing template.  This would allow us to put common notes, tolerancing, and company info in without having to add it every time we created a file. ...
