Creo Parametric comes with a library of ISO weld symbols, based on the ISO 2553 from 1983, as detailed in the following help page : https://support.ptc.com/help/creo/creo_pma/r9.0/usascii/index.html#page/detail/User_Defined_Parametric_Weld_Symbols.html This standard has been updated in 2019 with new symbols that my company need to use. According to this article, this update is not planned : https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/cs303110 We need the default Creo weld symbols library to be updated to the 2019 ISO 2553 standard.

Hello, I'm a CAD Admin (Creo 8.0.1.0) and facing a problem with ISO Welding symbols inside PTC's symbols library (located inside Creo Parametric installation directory). These ISO Welding symbols are way too long and cannot be changed / varied manually to shorten their horizontal line. In populated drawings - these symbols 'steal the show' due to their (too) large size. I opened a customer service call (CS16231214 - https://support.ptc.com/apps/case_logger_viewer/auth/ssl/case=16231214), and, in response, was advised to open an enhancement request. My pleading request... Please shorten the horizontal line of all ISO welding symbols (iso_fillet, combine, etc.) or at least give us the option to shorten it via Customization Options. Below a list of problems I ran into when using the weld module. I will update this list when I find more. It's not possible to flip weld annotations in 3D, only in 2D. So when using MDB it looks ugly (PTC case) The tail of the annotation stays on even if you turn off the sequence ID and the note (PTC case). Creating a sold weld is nice because you can use it in Simulate. But when you create welds in a way you also get weld annotations that can be used you ran into the problem that the welds interferere in the corners and therefore simulate can't mesh. Putting it into one set solves the issue in Simulate but then the welds are not houw they are placed in the real world and therefore the weld annotations are incorrect. Creating a double weld with unequal lengths gives an incorrect weld length in the annotation. Because it simply sums up the weld length and divide by 2. So a weld which has a length of 50 on one side and 40 on the other gives a weld annotation stating that the weld length is 45 on both sides.(PTC case). It's not easy to adjust the number of decimal places. Probably something you didn't notice when using ANSI or live in the US but quite annoying when there is 30.000 stated where it could be just 30 (and it also should actually be 30,000 but that's another discussion). To change this by default you have to actually change the weld annotation. And if you have ever tried that you know how hard that is (I've done it) and how much work it is. There is a config.pro opting called weld_dec_places but I cannot find what this setting does. Updating weld standards is almost impossible. Using a centralized place for your customized weld annotations is not possible. Adaptive weld annotations should be nice so you doesn't have a weld annotation that has a line that is WAY to long for the text that it uses. Not possible to exclude/disable features from assembly Simplified Representation (see article and Product Idea ) The number of fatal errors is really high when using solid welds (see for one example case)

Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video. Unable to use/select datum points inside a sketch while creating Spot weld. Creating datum points outside the context of a sketch limits you to how you can constrain the points, so creating a datum point inside a sketch is the desired method. 4. What is the use case for your organization? Creating pattern of datum points at sketch level and select sketched datum points for the spot weld feature 5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization? Design engineers need not have to create datum point outside the sketch and have flexibility to create point pattern, also easy constraining of points, which saves users extra time.

Currently in the drawing of Creo Parametric 6 the weld symbols are generic symbol saved/hide in a system folder (System Syms). There is no special button for the weld symbol. Then the users have to choose the Weld Symbol file and then select a lot of checkboxes (hide in other checkboxes) to edit the symbol as you can see in the following picture: Notice that the preview of the symbol on the right is small and every time you have to change the dimensions of the preview panel and enlarge the window. And every time you change something, the preview loses the zoom. This interface is difficult, slow and sometimes frustrating. And you cannot change the type of Weld Symbol, you have to delete it and create another symbol from another file and clicking the same checkboxes. So I ask you to replace this method with a special tab for the welding symbols, like what happened for the Geometry Tolerance in Creo Parametric 4. I know that there is a Welding application in Part and Assembly, but sometimes what is necessary is only the symbol in the drawing (like for the Datum Feature Symbol) I want you to notice what are the Graphic Interface for the weld symbols of other CADs: Inventor: Solid Edge: Solidworks As you can see, everyone of them has its special graphic interface for the insertion of welding symbols in the drawing..

I am using WF5/Creo. The number of files/drawings to be opened at one time is 15. Is there a reason that you can't have more than this? Thanks, Also, when editing a weld symbol - it treats the window as a 16th window. I recieved an error message that I had to many windows open. Try closing a few. I had 15 windows of files open and when I closed one, I was able to edit the weld symbol. Make the weld symbol editing box not the same type of feature/structure so that you if you have the drawing open currently, you would not get an error and the window would open normally for editing. April 11, 2013: Beside the window for welding, I just found that if I wanted to add a symbol, that window counts for one of you 15 windows too. I wasn't paying attention to the text line and clicked on the symbol icon, and it wasn't doing anything but silently screaming at me that I have to many windows already open. Sept 11, 2013: Wanting to add a symbol with 15 windows open bit me again - couldn't figure out why the window wouldn't pop up. Stop what you're doing, figure out what window you can close out, go back to adding the annotation that you need

Hello everyone! You can use the "Combine as similar welds" command in the welding tool to combine single welds together, but you cannot do this for symmetrical welds or for two sided welds. Please add this function to this command. Regards, Konrad Cwierz

With the inclusion of the welding module we have found that there is no editing possible for the OOTB weld symbols to remove the sequence note from the symbol tail. When we contacted tech support with a case we were told this was intended functionality. The actual sequence numbers assigned could vary from the actual production process and many times do. Prior to the Weld module our weld symbols were 2D symbols on the drawing. Now that we are trying to use the application to have welds in the model we have had to put the model weld annotation features on a layer to hide then duplicate the effort by adding the 2D symbols to the drawing. We did consider creating the custom weld symbol but that would require regular maintenance and testing with every Creo upgrade. We would request that Creo product management take the initiative here and edit the ootb symbol to add the sequence as variable text.

I want to get back this thread because it has been archived by PTC because of too few votes in a long time. But I think it should be useful: insert the possibiliti to define the lenght for the edge preparation. In addiction I also propose to implement a better interface for edge-preparation (see image below) and a command that permits to recognize ordinary chamfer features as preparations.

You can create a two sided weld with unequal lengths within one feature. But the annotation that is created is incorrect. The displayed length in the symbol is total weld length (side 1 + side 2) divided by 2. While the symbol should just display the length on arrow side weld above the annotation line and the length on the other side below the annotation line.

When using solid welds in the preferences of the welding tool (see fig. preferences.png) it is often not possible to create solid welds, because the material side of the weld is interpreted wrong by Creo (see fig. material_side.png). Please add the (grey) material arrow for solid welds, too (compare material arrow from surface welds). When creating solid welds, it is not intuitive at all to use the button "Flip material side" without any feedback from the program. Regards, Konrad

References used to create a features (extrude, weld, hole, and others) that are later "removed" by another feature, like a cut (machining process), cause regeneration failures because of missing references. This is a common practice when representing the machining features in the assembly's tree. The ideal, would be to save/maintain the references or do the regeneration starting from top to bottom of the model tree, since the references still exist when the feature referenced is created.

Actually the edges preparation is not allowed for this kind of welding. Furthermore, even if the preparation is made with a part feature (e.g.: a simple chamfer), you're not able to "fill the empty/cavity" with the welding's material. The Eurocode 3 allows the edges preparation for fillet welds.

I am having an issue while drafting the assembly/model having welding feature which not able to identify as it has the same behavior as regular part drafting. So is there any way to make the welding solid in drafting so that fabricators identify it quickly? Currently, we use hatching but it is a tedious process and time-wasting. Our many more customers from solidworks and solidedge, asking that to have the same but more intelligent feature in Creo for the same. 4. What is the use case for your organization? Fabrication drawings contain a huge amount of welding features and for each to make solid make the delay in the project 5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization? Tried to weld two parts together. It seems that the geometry is not that simple. With a butt weld it works but if I trie to fill the gap completly when I try to fill the gap completely with a butt weld it does't work like expected It's depth is 14mm and it works only when I type in 13.99mm It's possible with this workaround to type in 14mm but you have to define a face offset of -0.01mm that it works Not so nice for users to find this workaround. Is there a possibility for the programmers to make this easier?
