The layer rules are a powerful function to optimize Creo models and the data quality within these models.
We use layer rules in our standard templates to ensure, that every user can handle every model. Other user layers are allowed but they are not needed to control the visibility in our models and assemblies. This ensures better interaction between different designers and stable data exchange and data conversion processes.
Today PTC provides toolkit functions to read and create layers, layer rules and to control layer visibility. We are able to check these contents with modelcheck and we can provide an automated repair function.
All subsequent process assumes that all features are placed on the right layers by using the layer rules. The possibility to ignore the layer rules by including or excluding features manually is a significant quality gap for us, because we cannot check it with toolkit. Sometimes features are accidently added to our standard layers and it costs much effort to give support in these cases.
