ordinate dimension enhancement

ordinate dimension enhancement

In a drawing, when you create Ordinate dimensioning, sometimes the edge/feature that is selected for the baseline dimension loses its connection.

When that happens, you cannot “Edit Attach…” and relink the ordinate baseline to that edge/feature.

As a result, your only option is to delete the baseline ordinate and as a result, ALL of the offset dimensions that reference that baseline are then deleted.

This can cause a significant delay in producing a revised drawing. I’ve lost as much as an hour, dimensioning a drawing that only lost it’s baseline dimension.

For the secondary dimensions that reference the baseline, this functionality works.

This also would be beneficial in case an engineering/draftsman realizes he/she has selected the wrong feature for ordinate dimensions. If he/she had finished dimensioning the drawing or had that pointed out in a review, what should be a 10 second fix turns into an ordeal.

I have gotten around this issue by using existing datums (or creating a new ones) to use as the basis for creating ordinate dimension baselines. If the references for the datum(s) fail they are still in the model albeit maybe frozen. Simply redefine the datum's references and the ordinate set of dimensions that referred to this baseline are still intact
