prompt user to save after long period of work without save

If the user forgets to save his or her work for too long (15 minutes or more) Creo could show a pop up suggestion for the user to do so.  This could be non configurable or user configurable to different durations ("only prompt after 45 minutes"for example).

While many Creo users are seasoned professionals, we are all human and sometimes for reasons that seem inexplicable we just forget to save, then comes a fatal error and we lose all that work.  From personal experience this has cost me anywhere from 2 to 6 hours this year alone.  Maybe a save reminder could help.

There are many free timers available on the web that would act as a reminder to save your work when they reached zero.

PTC does not need to spend maintenance dollars on implementing something that you can grab for free.

Saving your work before doing something that may cause the software to lock up or crash is the user's responsibility, not the software's.

I have used another CAD system that had an auto-save function. It sucked! Just when you are deep in thought, cruising along with a design change, the auto-save would kick in and then you sit and wait for the 2-5 minutes for the system to save everything. When that vendor redesigned their software, they eliminated the auto-save function and had only a few complaints.

With an assembly open, which file do you save when the auto-save timer kicks off? The file you are working on, which may not be the assembly or drawing, all modified files in memory, which Creo can't even keep track of itself now, or all files that you have read/write access to? What happens to that file you locked in your workspace, but modified in memory, meaning to save it in 10 minutes before lunch, but had to get this one other change done.

It is a lot of work for the PTC programmers to code an auto-save function for little gain.

Well, it could be just like those yellow pop up windows that tell you that you can use the Control-Button to select stuff.

So it would be just a reminder, that you can click away.

You yourself have to decide if you do it.

AND a check marker that allows you to hide it for ever.

this way all would be happy.

And in the Options somewhere you could set after what time the counter goes off.

There are plenty of free timer programs that you can download and run to give a warning at some interval. No need to spend maintenance money on something that can be done for free.

For that matter, setup Outlook or whatever email program you have with a calendar item for every hour to save your files. Popup comes up, save your files and dismiss the popup.

It takes longer to discuss this than to implement.

We all know there are free timers on the market, there are even smartphones that can do it (WOW! and guess what, they just programme dit in! no app needed :-)).

Then there are things called clocks and so on.

There are so many possibilities but even some good games offer a clock to remember that 30 minutes have gone by...

It just would be better if Creo tells the time gone by itself than another program that pops up.

And again: if this is so hard to implement and would take the programmers more than a couple of hours, well, than how long would they take for realizing really hard stuff, like drawing a perfect circle 🙂
