user defined symbols containing note leaders and dimensions

user defined symbols containing note leaders and dimensions

We have over 320 "details" that can be added to a drawing for further reference of something contained in that drawing. Many of these "details" contain notes with leaders and dimensions. The only way that has been available to make these "details" are to create them as draft groups, place them on their own drawings and add them to the drawing via the "insert, copy from other drawing" command. Also, quite a few of these draft groups have notes in them that need to have text changed to make them drawing specific. Many of the users forget to do that and the variable text functionality of the symbol would alleviate that problem. We would also like to automatically place many these via a drawing template where a specific file location and name of the "detail" can be entered into the template as would be available through the use of a symbol.

We would really like to change all these draft groups to symbols, but user defined symbols do not allow the use of dimensions or note leaders in them. I guess what all this verbiage and description comes down to is when are we going to have functionality in Creo to be able to add note leaders and dimensions into a user defined symbol?

Here is sample of one of our current draft groups looks like:

I'm all for improving the symbol capability, but what you're showing here looks more like custom BOM balloons that are reading a "DESCRIPTION" parameter from the repeat region.  Not sure about the one note with two leaders, but everything else looks very straight forward with a normal repeat region and one custom symbol.

Tom,

There are no models associated with these. They are basically an illustration to show the builder/contractor details for installation. Therefore, there is nothing to pull the BOM from and create the notes and dimensions.
