Webcast Q&A

Question from ErikWhat Creo version has the lattice structures?

Answer:  Started in Creo 4.

Question from ErikWhat license do you need for lattice?

Answer:  Additive Manufacturing Extension.

Webcast Q&A

Question from JorgeCan you share a tutorial for doing the seed and boundary selection?  I always get confused....

Answer:  Haha, good question!  Easy to forget if you only use it once in a while.  You can find a step by step tutorial HERE.

Webcast Q&A

Question from Juan:  Is this lattice feature only for 3D printing parts?  I missed the name of the process that can create it.

Answer:  Presumably yes, mainly for 3D printing.  You could do some of the 2.5D options with an extrude process, but that's way more complex than you would ever want to machine.

Webcast Q&A

Questions from MichaelIs it possible to drive the lattice shape and size strictly through the stress analysis?  Enter nodes, lodes first?

Answer:  No, you need to put up some sort of guess, but then optimize from there.

Webcast Q&A

Question from Peter:  Is a library of AM materials included, including nonlinear simulation?

Answer:  Key is that the lattice is just part of the model, meaning the same material as specified in the model properties.  I don't know that we have any AM specific materials, more like the normal options of PLA, aluminum, etc.  Might need to tweak those properties for different printing processes.

Question from Peter:  Right, that's a significant gap for us since printed materials often behave quite differently from homogenous materials.  Simulation values are ok for % differences but not for absolute values used to predict real-world performance.  That means we must still build and test, instead of relying on simulation.  Are there any initiatives to address this?

Answer:  Terrific question.  I can talk with our product managers to see what is happening in this area.  I'm sure part of the problem is the massive daily update of new materials for new processes!

Webcast Q&A

Question from RIs it possible to add the honeycomb lattice without removing the web wall?  That functionality will be useful if we want to add a stiffening structure to plastic parts.  The web wall in the middle will be thin,  The honeycomb lattice will be thicker.

Answer:  Yes, the easiest way would be to reorder the beam after the lattice.

Question from RThis is very powerful, what I'm seeing here!  This is the Legacy Simulation functionality (from Pro/Mechanica), not the new Ansys Simulation, correct?

Answer:  No, we are seeing the Ansys simulation, specifically the instant results Live simulation.  But this works just fine with the legacy Simulate also.
