Creation of "smart" PDFs

Creation of "smart" PDFs

Add "smart" features to PDF outputs.  I know that some of these can be done because our circuit board design software does them.  Others I have seen in a demo of Illustrate using a Schematics design.

The ability to create the file in PDF is preferred since almost all users can view the files with no additional installations.  Some of these suggestions may require a viewer with more capabilities but it would need to be a free viewer in order for the users to want it.

1) Add bookmarked views of all items with reference designators.  Allows the user to locate any item in a drawing from the Bookmark bar.  Have seen in use.  Should be an easy item.  Would prefer it to highlight the item.  For fibers, it should highlight the co-shapes and highways.

2) List data for the highlighted item.  When an item is selected (highlighted), a table appears with data for the item.  There would need to be a table or dialog for the creation of the data so that the fields can be selected to be shown.  For components, we would want our part number but not the manufacturer's name or part number.  For fibers, we would want the color and gage but not the insulation type or other details from the wire table.  We would want to include some of the standard parameters and some that we have defined, such as:  reference designator, function, and signal description.

oops, got the first two done and forgot the more difficult ones.  These are ones I am not sure can be done in the PDF format.  They might require a variation of Creo View.

Select entire networks of fibers.  All fibers connected to a port plus those connected through splices and connectors.

Follow fiber networks.  From the selected fiber, allow the user to select the end of the fiber to go to and to select attached fibers (this allows the user to trace the circuit and then jump to another circuit when the connection is found through a component (switch, fuse, relay, etc).  I have seen a Schematics/Illustrate demo using this feature but it requires software that our customers would not be able to have.
