there is no possibilty to load a color palette into Creo View. Each color has to be added manuelly by defining color values. A function to import a color palette is necesaary!
I agree! The ability for the user to define colors and save them in the preferences file for use with other designs would be helpful. Is one color pallete for all viewable types good enough to do you need one per type (ECAD, MCAD, PDF, Drawing, etc.)?
This would be good enough. The possibility to use the same palette as in Creo Parametric (*.map files) would be perfect. We already have the Creo Parametric palette´s and then could just load them to Creo View.
We haven't gotten fully integrated from MCAD to ECAD yet. But myself with an ECAD background have to say it crazy that color control isn't in there. For years we have layer color set in out ECAD design tools. Having to switch, or metally try to switch in another tool.... It hard. How about a 10 layer PCB? Another example are the units. We design imperal but board layout now days is done with metric components. I actually tried to see if I could find the file where is is stored to address back door. I believe I found but it is a dynamic .xml file.
There is a control in the ECAD GUI called Preset Views which allows you to have a set of saved options that can be applied to any design. One of the options is sublayer colors. I am pretty sure that would be one step in helping you out here.
The fact that the "Choose Color" GUI in Creo View does not allow you to create custom colors for re-use is what I thought you originally meant by a color palette. Addressing this limitation specifically is on our roadmap.
There are default options for color and visibility settings that allow users tro establish a standard (for them or their company) that gets applied to new views. there are alos the Preset Views that Mark mentioned as well.
Perhaps I am not understanding the issue here. If these suggestions do not resolve your concern, please let us know.
it´s not an issue of setting defaults for new views, ít´s an issue of assigning colors to individual model data. This is only possibly by assigning the colors by entering the RGB values for each component. You habe no chance to define a color palette and include this to the configuration like in Creo Parametric.
OK, then I guess Mark's answer about this limitation being on our roadmap is probably covers that as of now, as the solution for that is not a bug fix, but rather a new feature that must be prioritized, designed, and developed. I am sorry you are having trouble in this area.
Thanks for your additional reply to Marks. I’m at a bit of a disadvantage as I have not used the Viewer extensively. In fact yesterday I used the ECAD cross probing schematic to PCB for first time. I used the Mark’s video session that showed this feature. I was stuck for a while to get to a couple .eda files. We have 8 PCB layout and 25 Design folks that could use the viewer to solve, unload use from our Mentor tools, and have a link to the source documents. I haven’t totally explored operation/installation documentation (yes I’m one of those guys that “does” try to review the documentation). What I could use is an understanding of how to setup the Standard and Preset views so that users don’t have to do this one at a time. Can I copy a file to their computer or can I set before they install? With larger layer count PCB additional colors would be appropriate. Being able to use 16 colors with a (black back ground) is where we fit well. I did also find the preset view that allows flipping view top and bottom. On the roadmap is important.
