Publication Settings handling for new Figures and Save

Publication Settings handling for new Figures and Save

Today (-8.1.0.0), there is no way to make the Publication Settings be consistent over the lifetime of an illustration - new Figures do get all of the publishing profiles enabled by default even when the column checkboxes (complete profiles) are unchecked. See screenshot: when profiles are disabled for a Figure, they get re-enabled for new Figures.

A desired behavior for new Figures would be to only “inherit” those that have not been deselected completely (in the column header) in the Publication Settings and/or to be able to set the profiles to include when Saving specifically (as changing some settings for a temporary publication sticks when saving).

We have standards with several profiles for various output, including multiple Creo View publication profiles, and when saving the files with client-side publishing it can take a very long time to complete. Today the workaround for the users is to go to Publication Settings before saving/checking-in any file and that step is often forgotten.

A related improvement would be to bring the whole set of Publication tools and actions up to a higher level, e.g. by having them collected in a “Publication” tab.

Hi @Perryscope

Thank you for publishing your idea with some details. However, I would encourage you to give more context on your suggestion based on the form you saw in the submission process. (questions below). The more context you give to document your idea, the better. Think about ways to educate and convince other Community members to support your idea and present your case to the product management team for consideration.

Please let us know within the next two weeks.

1. Describe your environment: What is your industry? What is your role in your organization? Describe your stakeholders.
2. What product & version are you currently running?
3. Describe the problem you are trying to solve. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video.
4. What is the use case for your organization?
5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?

Additionally, I invite you to check out this topic where 2 PTC executives explain product managers' approach to customer ideas and input for product roadmaps.
