Good Morning All.
Problem / Request:
- We need a way to Mass Plot the drawings listed on our BOM's
- I have found a couple of companies that say they can program this, but
cost is prohibitive. ( $10k or more)
Background info:
- I work for a small manufacturing company, about 60% of our work is custom,
but we do have a standard product line as well ( you can look at our website
if you're interested in exactly what we create).
- We have 4 seats of Pro/E (WF4) and just in the process of installing
Intralink 9.1 ( after being burnt by Product Point )
- Most of our assemblies are anywhere from 20-100 Parts (not overly
complicated)
- We will use customer supplied Pro/E Models for reference only, these items
will be filtered off from our BOMs
Goal:
- Find a low cost, simple method of creating hardcopies of a print package
for us to manufacture.
- OR -
- Develop House-ware to perform this.
Task overview:
- I'm not ashamed to admit that I don't have a super programmer's skill set,
I'm more of a mechanical guy.
- While not a programmer, I've tinkered for years with various languages,
and do have access and limited skills with Visual Basic, and can create
Pro/E Mapkeys. I do NOT have skills with C or the like.
- Is there a way to set some sort of Pro/E script when the save button is
pressed?
--- In this script, I would like to create a B&W PDF file on our network
with the same name as the file I have open.
--- The Script would read the Displayed BOM and generate a .TXT file with
the Part Numbers listed on it.
- A separate VB program ( outside of Pro ) would search these .TXT files,
building a list of numbers and then simply print the associated PDFs.
OK, I've listed my ideas and am totally aware that all the details are a bit
sketchy. but Hey, you have to start somewhere.
Thoughts, Suggestions, Comments Welcome. If I get this working, I would be
happy to share this (FREE). I've learned a lot from you guys over the
years, It's about time I help too. Thanks
