Setting a favorite in the Creo Parametic Internal Browser or setting a web page location for a tab.

Setting a favorite in the Creo Parametic Internal Browser or setting a web page location for a tab.

I currently have a config pro setting for a web browser homepage. That works fine. What I am looking for is the ability to define the web location of a secondary tab so that the tab shows a defined web page. If there was a way to define a web favorite in the internal browser that would also be acceptable.

Hi,

I don't believe that it is possible to configure a second tab. Take a look at this post:

Thanks for the info about not being able to set a location for secondary browser tabs. So now to favorites. I want all users to have a set of browser favorites deployed to them at start up. What file needs to be in their start directory or what file in their installed files will give users web browser favorites.

James,

The favorites are stored in the cache area under <cache>\.Settings\web_favorites.xml.  If you want to add to the user's already existing favorites, you'll need to modify the .xml file to add your items.  For new users/installations, you can just create the <cache>\.Settings\web_favorites.xml file before the user starts Creo Parametric.

If you don't need to use the embedded browser for the pages you wish to make available, you can create a simple mapkey for each website (or document, or anything), and then just create menu items for the mapkeys.  We do this for our common hardware charts, our standard notes documents, IHS web site, etc.  You can also collect all the web site links in a single document (or sharepoint site, or whatever), and then just create one mapkey to open that document.

Examples of some mapkeys follows:

mapkey EDRM @MAPKEY_NAMEEngineering Drawing Requirements Manual;\
mapkey(continued) @MAPKEY_LABELEDRM;\
mapkey(continued) @SYSTEMstart "EDRM" https://www.someplace.com/eng\
mapkey(continued) /published/EDRM.docx;

mapkey quicklinks @MAPKEY_NAMEQuickLinks;@MAPKEY_LABELQuickLinks;\
mapkey(continued) @SYSTEMstart "QuickLinks" "X:\\creo\\parametric\
mapkey(continued) \\4.0\\std_config\\html_pages\\
mapkey(continued) \Quick_Access_Links.htm"

Using mapkeys like those shown above will launch whatever program is associated with the file extension (.htm, .html, .docx, .pdf, etc.), so the current user's default programs will launch.

If you're using Windchill, you can use the Notebook to track and manage links. In our case, Windchill is the homepage so this option is pretty convenient. You can make links to things in Windchill or websites that you use every day.
