Now that I know how to do arc lengths per another topic, thank you forum, I have another problem that the sketch won't update correctly when the size of the part changes. Using WF2. I have a C shaped ring. It has 3 dims. ID, arc length, and thickness which is a constant. The id is the diameter the material is bent around and the arc length is the material cut length specified on the drawings. (Hand drawings are being converted from 1970’s to pro-e models.) (Part is a ground spring with stamped tines on a large spool cut to length and attached to cylindrical connectors) I enter the numbers in a family table and the base part works, but the second one fails. I thought maybe the length was too long and the ends touched or overlapped, but not true. Then I thought maybe the order of the dims mattered if it grew the length dim before the dia the ends would touch. (Still don’t know if this matters.) But… I go into the sketch and enter the same numbers I put in the family table. Doesn’t work, but I know it should. I modify the diameter so the opening in the C is bigger, ok. I enter the arc length, doesn’t take the value at which point it does something I’ve never seen before. It takes the number and moves the sketch to where it should end up, but then pauses for a second and the number in the field rolls back to the previous value. So I enter a value slightly bigger than the starting value. Ok. I keep adjusting the number and it keeps taking it. Example: Arc is 1 and need 1.6. I enter 1.6 and it rolls back to 1. I enter 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and so on up to 1.6 and it works. I hit ok and it regenerates just fine. Huh? Bigger hammer? Then I try and verify the family table and everything is ok as the generic and the instance now have the same larger size values. So I modify the instance to now be the smaller part thinking maybe the part can only be scaled down for some reason. Nope, new numbers fail which were the same as I built the part in the first place. I go into the sketcher and have to do the same incremental thing to the arc length dim to get the sketch to adjust smaller and then it completes. I’m at a loss. This should obviously be a sheet metal part, but I have never used it and everyone at my job says rolled parts are very hard. I imagine I’d have the same regeneration issues anyway. What’s worse is this was supposed to be the easy part. Adding the ?-shaped stamped tines in an axis pattern to the family table was what I was dreading. Help please. (I tested the ?-shaped tine on a cylinder and it works until the ID of the cylinder jumps to around midway past the tine at which point the tine flips itself inside out. Somehow the tangency between the two arcs and the cylinder flips and turns both arc into circles and the feature fails. But this will be my next topic I’m sure.)
