mixed beam & solid analysis?

Is it possible to use beams & solids together in Mechanica Wildfire 2.0?

I have frame rails connected by crossmembers which are structural
c-channels, and I'd like to approximate the crossmembers using beams, while
keeping the frame rails as solid elements. So I created datum points on the
frame rail parts, and used those datum points as the endpoints when creating
my beam idealizations. However, the run terminates with a fatal error,
saying the model is underconstrained. As soon as I take my beam elements
out, the model runs fine. What am I doing wrong, or is this something
Mechanica just can't do?

Thanks!

hi,

14 years later I have the exact same question.

I'd like to connect a beam (beam-element created with AFX) to a plate (solid model, see attatched picture).

The plate is fixed on a hole.

What is the right way to connect the beam to the solid model ? When I try to solve the simulation there is a fatal error.

Thanks,

Maik
