more fun with holes... hmm.

So,

What would be a possible reason that my hole note tab is grayed out? It is
a "simple" hole, thru all with a c'bore. (NOT assy level.)

I would like the drawing to have the note on it automatically so I don't
have to create it.

Nathan,

You have hit on one of the longest running "Why's" in the PTC saga. In my, close to 27, years on this software, "why's" have existed with Pro.

I could spend the entire day reflecting and writing all them, but it would be of no value. I am sorry to say that I do not know WHY the note tab is grayed out for a simple hole. It would seem logical to have something like this at your fingertips. Why, you ask? I envision a scenario like this: while the hole tool was being developed years ago, someone asked, should the note tab be visible and useable in Simple Hole. The answer was probably "Heck no Goober, it's just a hole. It's just a round feature that will have a shown dimension available on the drawing. What more do those CAD Monkies need?". While thatmight bea good answer from a text book standpoint...I.E. a non-working, green engineer that assumes it's all easy on shop floor. Not always the case, Mr. Graduate Engineer.

What if one needed to specify running a de-burring tool on that Simple hole, or to mark the hole with paint? That embedded note seems really useful and nice to have it all in one tool. Maybe that makes too much sense.

But, then again.....if they didn't want the Note to be used, then WHY is the tab still there in the first place? Why?????

And Why can I not access the note's properties from the drawing? Why do I
have to open the part and change the note (excuse me - annotation) there?

(did that dude just call me a CAD monkey? Goober.)

I haven't used the embedded notes for years, but as I remember, in WF2 at least, they weren't associative, so changing a hole parameter didn't result in the note updating.
Is that still the case in Creo 2.0?

If the answer is 'No', I just might start using them when we finally migrate.

Issues like this have been around since I started with pro Rev 17. I not
beating on PTC but this seems to be the way they operate, write just
enough code to satisfy the ability to call it "new functionality" and move
on. This community amongst others has been asking for this tool to be
adjusted in one manor or another for years now. Every year or so another
thread like this gets started we all jump on board and rant about it
myself included, but nothing happens. My biggest gripe centers around the
fact that PTC does not listen to it's user base on simple little things
like this. My personal angst centers around the GD&T GUI, but that is
another rant for another time.

Right click the hole note in the drawing and select "Edit Value" and you can change the hole note in drawing mode. Works in Creo Parametric 2.0 at least.

Bill,

Thanks! This is a nice tip - and I should take my own advice - ("RMB
everywhere and READ all the choices")
