Help topic collections

Hi everybody,

In the pass, I used to download and search informations in Help topic collection.
It was a complete set of pdf help files.

I don't have maintenance anymore but last time I looked, it didn't exist for Wildfire5 (Creo did not exist at this time).

So, can someone tell me if this file "help topic collection.zip" is now exist for WF5 / creo elements ?
I found this very helpfull and I would apreciate to have this for last revision of ProE.

Thanks,
GB

GB, unfortunately and to the dismay of many, the Help Topic Collection for WF5 does not exist.

The Help Center that is within Creo Elements/Pro is available online, just not as a PDF document. http://www.ptc.com/cs/help/proengineer_hc/proe_help/ You can access it from the Pro/ENGINEER and Creo Elements/Pro Support Center oon ptc.com. One benefit you get with thisis always having current information. With this you can open it outside ofCreo Elements/Pro ona second monitor if you wish. Youget full functionality of the Help centeras if youopened it fromPro. I strongly recommend a user take the time to reviewthe "Using the Help Center" linkto benefit from all of the new functionality the revised Help Center brings. Now if PTC could only add the ability to use the LearningConnectorfrom the online Help Center it would really add power to the user.

Ok, so it's nice to have this all in one place and up to date but it's
still the dated information system they've always had. It tells you
what all the buttons and options do but doesn't really tell you HOW to
do anything. I have found Pro/e's help section pretty much useless when
I don't know how to use a feature and want to learn it. Isn't that
really the point?

Maybe that's what the LearningConnector does.

I would agree that the help topics seem to be short on practical
examples, and I am getting very frustrated with help topic examples that
sometimes date back to WF3 screens. I don't think that I should have to
purchase extra 'training' just to get someone to walk me through some
examples that should have included in the help topics to begin with.

It's almost like the help topic was the specification that was given to
the programmers to make the functionality work.

As part of FIRST robotics, I had the chance to experience AutoDesk
Inventor. Help was available for the dialog boxes that showed the picks
and results - no need to leave Inventor for help screens.

On the Ribbon - Get Started tab are: tutorials for the ribbon, command
locator, getting started, general tutorials, learning path, and show-me
animations._

There's also a keyword search box and general help button.

Perhaps it is time for cross pollination.

I think historically PTC and their vendors made the real money on
training. While this was a good model then, I think it's proving to
hurt PTC's business in that new users can't simply pickup the software
and get using it without this extra cash outlay. More importantly,
those who have say a 70% grasp of the software capability cannot justify
training that will cover most of what they already know just to learn
one or two extra tools.

Thankfully, we do have the exploder...

Thanks for the input. I also use other tools besides Pro-E. Another
CAD system (I won't mention for fear of starting a flame war) has
tutorials for the basic functionality of the software, plus tutorials
for new features as they are released, plus context-sensitive help with
examples of applications and workflows. All are included with the base
software license.

After reading your examples with Inventor, I think this type of support
of the software is not unusual, or expensive for the end-user. I use
PTC software every day for some very complicated designs, and I cannot
go off and take (or retake) training at an additional cost, especially
when the training is generic and not tailored specifically to my exact
needs.

I agree it is time for some imitation of their competitors....

You would think providing the best possible help environment would more than pay for itself for PTC in reduced tech support costs.

I logged 55 calls in the last 6 months installing, configuring, and migrating to Windchill. Most of them were simply that I couldn't find the information I needed in the available documentation.
