I have a question regarding the best modeling practices of plastic parts designed for ultrasonic welding. In this particular case, the part is cylindrical shaped, and transitions into a cone shape. It has internal features that are mirrored, such as ribs.
Would it be better to model the part as a whole part (w/ ribs), create a sectional cut (splitting the part in half), and then create the joint configuration (step joint, tongue and groove, etc)? The parts would then be rejoined in the assembly. Is it standard modeling practice to model the energy director associated with the joint design?
I would appreciate any suggestions for best modeling practices.
