Initial Summary :: Drawing Text Disappears

Some common ideas that are not it:

Layers - There are no drawing layers and drawings created without the template are fine, so model layers don't' seem to be an issue.
Colors - I'm using default WF4 yellow for text, default WF4 black background.  Besides, if I edit a table cell, the text appears, briefly.

Other suggestions:

Re-load the DTL file:
No change.

Create another new, empty drawing and merge the two.
No change.
(In Creo 2 it's Layout > Insert > Import Drawing Data > select old drawing.  In WF4 it's Insert > Shared data > from file > select old drawing.  The old gets added as new sheets and you can delete the empty first one.)

Any other ideas?
