Mechanica optimisation study

Gurus,

From time to time I try to run an optimisation study in Pro/M.

On this occasion it's fairly simple: minimise mass, stress limit
(max_stress_vm) 500 MPa, with two dimensions to vary. Previously it may
even have been just minimise stress with two dimensions.

Every time I try this I get the error:

"** Warning: Changing the parameters has produced invalid

model or geometry for the following parameter

values:"

and then it shows values which are only a very small change from the
model's current dimensions, and which regenerate fine if I put them back
into the solid model.

Then it spends ages

"Recovering from invalid parameter values by cutting

step size."

without really getting anywhere.

What am I doing wrong? Sensitivity studies work fine, but I feel I
should be able to give the problem to my computer and just let it go
away and find an answer!

Thanks,

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Try changing from the default optimizer to the GDP method. This method seems to be more robust, but can take longer. However, since you only have two parameters, it shouldn't make much difference.
