Pro/Engineer - File | Save a Copy will do this. However you do not the ability
to update parents.

Workspace - File | Save As will NOT do this.

So if I understand you correctly you are wanting to overwrite existing Intralink
files (target) with another file (source) that exists in Intralink. You can do this by:
1. from linked session export source from workspace into a directory
2. from linked session import source as new into workspace.
3. rename "new" source files to target

Andy Burke created an excellent article titled "Managing Design Variations in Windchill
PDMLink 9.1". In this Andy explains the above 3 steps in detail. This article should be
required reading for anybody using Pro/Engineer and Intralink/PDMLink. Link to the
article is here:

Cant do it in pro, it starts taking dependencies. We only want to
duplicate dynamic objects, not statndard, and when you startinvolving
assemblies it just does everything. And by the way, it is sometimes up
to 10,000 objects, not just a couple.

I have been aware of that TPI for some time now. It did not work for
us, our migrators, or PTC for what we are doing. We are not duplicating
every part in an assembly, just some, and the others cant be in session
at the same time. I have to close the discussion on this.
What I want to be taken away from this whole mess is this: PTC sees no
reason for anyone to ever want to do this. They verbally expressed that
to me time and again. By the sound of it there are plenty of people who
do need it. And now this workaround that works for many of you no
longer works at all. This is vital functionality that the customers
need.
I don't want this to be a workaround with secret settings and Ouija
boards. I just want to be able to do it.
