Fw: How to pin point strain gauge locations in an FEA result window?

The more accurate way I have found to do it is to create a surface region
on the model the size of the strain gage and create a measure of the
averaged strain in that region. That is essentially what you get from a
strain gage -- averaged strain across the gage. You will also have to
know the direction of the strain gage and assign the same direction to
your Mech measurement.

Ideally, it would be nice to get a point value from a strain gage, but
that is normally not possible unless the area under the strain gage has a
very small gradient. Usually, we want to know the stress/strain in some
tiny fillet with a large gradient. A point measure on a Mech model would
always give you a higher (absolute) value than even the smallest, most
expertly applied strain gage.

Good luck,
Andy
