Helical Sweep: Springs with variable pitch and Profile

Hi,

 

I have to design a spring with two different pitches & diameter along its length.

A sample is as shown below.

I wanted to know how is the transition from diamter 1 ( with pitch 1 ) to diameter 2 ( with pitch 2 ) handled generally?

 

I am currently keeping the transistion length less than the least pitch around it since if the transition length will be more than the pitch around it then an entire coil will come within the transition zone having neither of the pitches.

 

Am I looking at this problem correctly? or do I have faulty assumptions?

You can change pitch in helical sweep, and the profile lets you change the diameter. I find the transition diffult to manage with the dialog, especually with a very course (low turn count) spring.

I do believe a better method is the evalgraph method where you can use a sweep with VSS to create a profile for a subsequent sweep to follow.
