How to pin point strain gauge locations in an FEA result window?

Hello FEA Guru's

I don't know if anyone could answer this complicated question but here it
goes....

How can we pinpoint exact locations on a model with the FEA results window?

We are wanting to locate the exact points of an actual strain gauge test on
a casting and place them on the Pro/E model with datum points or some other
method of location.

We are using our 3D Laser Scanner to scan the casting and we have beads we
placed where the strain gauges where located.

We then take our scan data and overlay it to the Pro/E model and mark the
exact locations of the strain gauges with Datum Points or some other method
in Pro/E.

We require these datum points to appear in the FEA results window in order
to measure the exact location the strain gauge points where located. We
are doing this to verify the results with Mechanica.

Is there anyone out there that has done something similar and is willing to
share how you accomplished it?

Can Datum Points be displayed in the Mechanica Results Window or some other
way of pin pointing a location from the Pro/E model?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Damian,

If the points lie on the surface of the part, just create measures of strain
(or stress or anything else) 'at point'. The results are in the summary
(.rpt) file. If you use Multi-pass adaptive solver you will also get the
convergence for each measure.
