Model History Comparison

Model History Comparison

Just finished marking 130 near identical student part files and my mind is numb, 2 things:

First, I'm going to talk to PTC about their model analysis (ModelCheck, XMA?) offering to see if this can do the basics for me by comparing to a standard - any thoughts or experiences? - this is their 1st assignment just for covering the basics, no design content to mark just inclusion of a set feature list to a set drawing.

Second, cheating - the marking relies on me to spot models which are the same (no 'Turn It In' plagarism checker for us!) and investigate the file history to see who was involved in its creation. Is there any way to automate comparing the history in a set of files and flag common users in the report?

Cheers, Sean

Undergraduates?

Cheating?

Surely not...

Didn't happen in my day - we didn't have the Internet! Otherwise - who knows?

#1 - Did you look at the 'compare part' function? Not sure where it is in Creo, in WF4 (what I'm working in on this project), it's under Info. You can compare by feature and by geometry.

#2 - Also under Info in WF4 (you'll have to search in Creo) is the 'Audit Trail' that will show the full save history of a part, including (I believe) the start part it came from. So, if John built it and Susan copied it, I believe that the audit trail for both files will be identical up to the point where Susan copied it.

Sean,

As Doug said, the audit trail will get you what you want in terms of
cheating. I've used it as evidence in federal cases, it will hold up
unless you're looking at someone with phenomenal skills. I have yet to
write a script automating it, though I may need to in a couple of
months. Since the info you want is in the header, isn't too hard to pull
out.

ModelCheck will allow you to check versus a standard model in terms of
template or start part types of issues as well as modeling practices.
Let me know if you need help setting it up. MC also has some
functionality called Shape Indexing, this does a mathematical comparison
(within convergence criteria) to determine if the geometry of two parts
are the same.

If you are looking at setting this up for multiple classes over multiple
semesters it will be worth the time investment, otherwise...

Still cannot believe thedegradationof personal ethics, character, honor and integrity with regard to many people's behavior. Be it schooling, testing, projects, work or personal lives...the fact that so many make the willful choice to deceive and cheatin BEYOND me!

What has happened to our culture? Truly sad.

Really, will this hold up in court? A simple snippet of plain text that
is easily modified? That's scary.

On a slightly related note: does anyone have a list that shows the
relation between the codes in the header and the Pro/E version?
And maybe someone even has a list with the relation between the date
code and the date in the header?

Best regards,
Patrick Asselman
