Training Alternatives

I'm doing a survey of training options for Pro|E.  OF course, any VAR will offer the PTC certified courses, what I'm interested in is what other options are out there.

Here's what I've found so far.  I'm interested in any experience with / opinions on these and if there are others:

Design Engine - www.proetools.com
I've heard good things about them and Bart is active in the Pro|E community.  Their claim to fame seems to be more in advanced surfacing techniques rather than general training, although I see he's doing a routed systems presentation this year at PTC|User.

Training FACTORe - www.trainingfactore.com
Sells training materials only, does not run classes.  Anyone used their stuff?

Jeff Carlson - www.proe-training.com
On site classes with his own curriculum.  Hadn't heard of him before, anyone familiar?

Then there's things like books, training videos from FroTime and PTC University, but I'm focusing more on the classroom style training or materials.

Anyone have experience with these or know of any others/

Thanks,

Doug Schaefer

I'm very familiar with Jeff Carlson - _www.proe-training.com_
<file: www.proe-training.com=">.  He taught a number of classes for us at
a previous company.  Very bright and personable guy.  Has been doing
this for many years and is extremely proficient and thorough.

I have taken the Plastic Part Design Class
(

Hello Doug,
I took Pro/E surfacing classes a few years back from Design Engine. I would
recommend these classes to anyone looking to learn or advance their
surfacing skills. Small class size, personal attention if you need it,
instructor (Bart) has ability to address related issue questions that are
outside of the specific scope of the class.

You are correct in that they present technique and approach more than just
showing what button to push. This class was very good for someone like me
who was experienced at surfacing but wanted to build on existing skills. I
will eventually take their ISDX class when I get the time.

I have used Jeff Carlson quite a bit for training here at my current company, as he's especially convenient for us being in the Denver/Boulder area. I have had good feedback from my users that have taken his intro class, although I myself have never taken one from him. I usually ask my users for feedback after a class so I can determine if an instructor is worth bringing back, and with the good reviews Jeff gets, he is actually my go-to instructor for intro classes. He also did a basic surfacing class for us a while back and that toorecevied good reviews.

We have also had Bart from Design Engine out for some higher-level surfacing/ISDX classes. My guys that are heavy into surfacing were able to pick up some really good techniques from him. As someone else said, he doesn't just teach you mouse clicks, he teaches techniques that can be applied in any CAD package. I think this is what you need for higher-level surfacing gurus, because they usually already know where all the mouse clicks are, they just need some guidance on making more robust surfaces.

Hope this helps.
