replacing surface geometry

My industrial designer gives me IGES file (consisting of surfaces). The surfaces are solidified and the 3D mechanical model is built by me. Now if the Industrial designer updates his surface in ALIAS/Rhino and gives me a fresh iges file ,how do i update the change in my model (which has already been half way through) without having to scrap it and build it allover again

RE: replacing surface geometry

Hi iges, step, stl..... all these are 3d conversion formats. no modification or alteration is possible in the same format. unless u save it as a pro/e or any other software the above mentioned formats are never assosiative.

re: replacing surface geometry

satish, if the updates are minor, there is a way to update the solid models. redefine the import feature and under the geometry menu choose reload file. this will prompt you to select the new iges file. you should be able to replace the surfaces if there are minimal changes. i have used this functionality and works fine. let me know if it works.
