Export Integrity Document to PDF trought Gateway

Export Integrity Document to PDF trought Gateway

At Integrity, using the gateway to export document content, is only possible to export to MS Word (.doc or .docx) format. For the users as the document are already approved at Integrity, that menas this is constrained or closed, can be editted after exporting to MS Word. Exporting to PDF will avoid this sittuation

A very good one.

Currently I know only two Workarounds:

- Export as XML and use some XSL-FO Transformation

- Export as Docx and "print" as PDF

Both do work, but require extra Execution Frameworks (e.g. a Jenkins) or other "custom" Tools.

We in PTC Consulting have created a custom java class (including some embedded powershell code lines) that does the job very well. It sits behind the gateway and opens the generated word file, updates the content section and saves the file as PDF.

If someone is interested, please contact me directly.

We currently use a report for the digital approval process. This outputs an HTML. Then you have three options:

  1. Run the report As Of... when required, or save a dynamic link that does the same.
  2. Save the html report as a separate file, to store it in a different location.
  3. Print the html report to pdf if you prefer to store this file format over the original html format.

In theory, only the first one guarantees correctness in a paperless world. You could modify a html file in a text editor too, and you can modify a pdf in Acrobat Pro, unless you sign/protect the pdf file.

The ability to print/save as a pdf is in consideration for future release of Integrity Lifecycle Manager.

Sounds good Donny. It's a useful feature as such.

But bear in mind that in a regulated industry such as the medical device industry, a pdf is not sufficient to cover the use case in the request. Anyone with Acrobat Pro can still edit the pdf. So you'll need a locked / secured pdf that cannot be edited. Or you'll need (the option) to transfer the digital approval in Integrity to pdf signatures.
