KEPServerEX 6.13 licensing questions - Transferring to new server and MyKepware account

Transferring a license from a development server to the production server, it looks like this can be done as long as you have access to the MyKepware account the license originally came from and it still has support?

Must also use the same MyKepware credentials when transferring that were used for the original activation?

What happens if the perpetual is out of support? Do you have to buy support to be able to move it to a new VM?

When you are done with development can you move the license info to the end-users MyKepware account?

Found this info on how to move and then activate the license.

  1. Remove the License Activation ID from the local server via the License Transfer process:
    1. For more information on Transferring a License Activation ID please Click Here
  2. Perform maintenance
  3. Re-deploy License Activation ID

Hi @Tanquen

Yes, you can use any MyKepware account to activate it, after activation the license ID will be associated with that MyKepware account.

Greetings @Tanquen

Let’s address your questions regarding transferring Kepware licenses

Transferring Licenses from Development to Production:

  • Yes, you can transfer a license from a development server to a production server. To do this:
You should have a Mykepware account.
You can use any MyKepware credentials to transfer the license ID, but if you want all licenses must be associated with the same                        MyKepware account in that you must use the same MyKepware credentials that were used for the original activation.
Follow the steps provided in the license transfer process.

Perpetual Licenses and Support:

  • If your perpetual license is out of support, you can still use it, but you won’t be eligible for VMware support or updates to newer versions.

Moving License Info to End-Users:

  • Once development is complete, you can indeed move the license information to the end-users MyKepware account.
  • Follow the steps you found on how to move and activate the license, including the license transfer process.

Perpetual Licenses and Support:

  • If your perpetual license is out of support, you can still use it, but you won’t be eligible for VMware support or updates to newer versions.

So you can not move a license without support?

"eligible for VMware support" Like how just going back to a snapshot deactivates the license and you need support to reactivated it.

Default support after purchases is 60 days?

Moving License Info to End-Users:

  • Once development is complete, you can indeed move the license information to the end-users MyKepware account.

Sorry, I missed the part about moving license information from one MyKepware account to another.

Greetings @Tanquen

I  would like to inform you that the license ID should be under support ensuring assistance if any issues arise the license ID should be under support.

Default support after purchases is 60 days?

No, Support contracts are mandated with the purchase of the product for a minimum of one year.

So you can move a license without support but not recommended,

"eligible for VMware support" Like how just going back to a snapshot deactivates the license and you need support to reactivated it?

Sorry, I missed the part about moving license information from one MyKepware account to another. Where is the guide on that?

Hi @Tanquen ,

I apologize for missing that part earlier. Let’s address moving license information from one MyKepware account to another.

  1. License Deactivation:

    • The existing license in the old account needs to be deactivated (transferred).
    • Deactivation (Transfer) ensures that the license is no longer associated with the old account.
  2. License Activation in the New Account:

    • Once the license is deactivated, you can activate it in the new account.
    • You’ll likely need to provide the Activation ID associated with the license.
  3.

"You’ll likely need to provide the Activation ID associated with the license."

So as long as you have the Activation ID and it's not currently activated, you can use any MyKepware account to activate it?
