Anybody out there linking CAD to WT Parts - Clarification

Thanks everyone for the replies. I need to clarify further.

We have existing Parts with Structure and existing CAD with a different
structure. Not pretty, but it's our starting point.

We want to as much as possible link the CAD to their respective Parts in
order to get the Representations. We DO NOT want the CAD to drive the Part
structure or change it. Curious if anyone has tried using any of the
relationship types beyond "Owner". And if so what your experiences with it
have been.

Thanks again!
Margi

We started in the same position as you mentioned. Past modeling practices allowed people to create assemblies that were then set to recursive in the drawing BOM and then filtered out. This practice called "Convenience Assemblies". This was allowed because the PDF of the final drawing was the master. Since then we have changed practice but we needed to address this practice when we started creating and maintaining product structure. For these assemblies, the engineer associated the model to the WT Part using a Contributing Content link and then imports the BOM from a CSV file created from the Creo repeat region. This captures the BOM as the master and provides a link to the corresponding assembly. We created the table to below to document the different scenarios that we typically see. If you have more interest, I can provide more information on this practice and others.

Hi Corey,

Isn't this easier accomplished by setting the Common Attribute "Gathering Part" for these "Convenience Assemblies" to Yes?

Assembly OC0003 in the example below:

The Single Level BOM filters out the Gathering assembly and puts all it underlying parts to the upper level (just like the recurse/filter trick in repeat regions)

Kind regards,

Olaf Corten

Yes, it is. Unfortunately, this isn’t the only issue with our “heritage” models and drawings. Also, when we began this journey, we did not understand the full impact
of gathering parts.
