EMX-Windows 10 Compatibility

EMX-Windows 10 Compatibility

From B&W's compatibility chart, I see that Windows 10 requires EMX 9.0 M013? Find the chart here at http://www.buw-soft.com/data/pdf/compatibility_matrix.pdf

We have been having a load of problems in the BOM interface which are not consistently repeatable and we are running EMX 8 in Creo 2.0 M100

I can't be certain but this seems to have come along since we "upgraded" to Windows 10.

Typical problems are:

  • that the BOM reorders itself even if you save out of the BOM and come back in immediately
  • Restoring a set of excluded parts (eg 4 support pillars) to be included in the BOM restores only one of the four parts
  • Quantities are sometimes incorrect; sometimes even reflecting a zero.
  • Some item numbers go missing when the BOM is printed by populating a repeat region table in a drawing ie the item (POS) is there in the BOM UI but not on the drawing. Regen and updating the drawing do not fix this. Saving the BOM to the clipboard and pasting into Excel puts them into the spreadsheet.

Two questions then:

  1. Anyone else having BOM problems?
  2. What build of Creo 3.0 and EMX is being used without issues?

Hey Steve,

We have put a lot of effort into the BOM to improve the behavior in EMX 9.

It has nothing todo with your Windows 10 Upgrade.

EMX 8 is not supported anymore. The last official PTC Version was EMX 8 M020.

You can download the EMX 9 M020 from the PTC Server.

By default EMX comes with a default parameter configuration.

In case the Parameter setup is customized, the behavior of the BOM might be different.

Some answers to your questions.

  • that the BOM reorders itself even if you save out of the BOM and come back in immediately

The BOM does save the position id in the Parameter with the default value &pos_id.

This is a very important parameter. If this one does not exists the current BOM positions can not be saved.

  • Restoring a set of excluded parts (eg 4 support pillars) to be included in the BOM restores only one of the four parts

Excluded parts are not summarized in exculded parts area. You need to restore them individually.

Note: Summarizing of parts can be controlled with the column Use to summarize. You can set up rules here. In the default config parts are summarized in the BOM in cas the PARTNAME and the ORD_NUMBER parameters are equal.

It is also important that you have a parameter definded whichthe default value &qty is assigned to. EMX will the count the summarized parts and write the correct value into this parameter

  • Quantities are sometimes incorrect; sometimes even reflecting a zero.

This sounds like a issue with the Quantity parameter expalined above.

This sound like an issue with the Position parameter.

I hope this explains some issues. If you need further assistance, just write me a PM.

Thanks and Regards,

Thomas

Thanks Thomas that is very helpful. Our parameter set up is similar to your default only we do not show unused parameters in the table.

Just to comment on Windows 10 compatibility:

I have looked back in our project register and we upgraded all our workstations from Win 7 to Win 10 in June 2016.  On Win 7 Creo2 EMX8 M020 we had no issues with the BOM creation in EMX.  Every project created after Win 10 was upgraded (still using Creo2 and EMX8) has got random problems as described above (and others not mentioned). Then recently we installed one workstation with Win10 from disc (due to other problems non CAD related) and we cannot replicate the BOM problems on this machine.  So it seems that  the Win7 to Win10 upgrade could be the culprit here.

I would be interested to know why B&W have added a "Windows 10" column and show M013 for EMX (presumably for EMX 9) when most of their other software is Win 10 compatible at F000. Also EMX9 with Creo 2.0 & 3.0 is marked as compatible with F000 presumably with Win 7.
