Just read this, does anyone know if itstrue?!?
Financial Times - Sept. 6, 2008
Parametric Technologies, a maker of computer-aided design and operational software for businesses, has hired banking advisers and is approaching potential bidders in an attempt to sell itself for more than $2bn, according to people with knowledge of the process.
Parametric sells software that speeds and smoothes manufacturing processes and product development for customers ranging from Toyota and Bang & Olufsen to the retailer JC Penney.
Have to agree with Dave. Sounds like the executives are making sure they have a Golden Parachute. They've hired Goldman Sachs to try to woo potential buyers. More details are here (the link supplied earlier didn't work for me, may not have for others either):

Makes me wonder if Ishouldhold off on migrating to Windchill (off Intralink 3.4)...again / still. If some current competitor were tobuy PTC, I doubt they'd beencouraging current Intralink 3.x customers to migrate to their newly acquired PLM application instead of their own existing PLM application. Also makes me curious as to what kind of sweet deal they offered EADSto recently beat out Dassaultand Siemensto get Windchill in there. Almost sounds like a strategic business move by PTC to win a very high profile implementation over the competittion with the end goal being to drive up share prices in anticipation of selling themselves to the highest bidder. It will certainly be interesting to see how this pans out. Siemens bought UGS, HP bought EDS who is going to buy PTC? What if nobody bites? Now that would be embarassing.

It is a cash grab for the executives.

The "Autodesk seeking to buy PTC" rumor is one that surfaces now and again. Now PTC is looking to be bought. Funny thing is I asked the president of our local Autodesk VAR about that a few months ago and despite her anti-PTC mantra, shebasically impliedthe rumor exists for a reason (along with the sort of smirk that implied PTC's products would be better as a result). At this point, anything is possible. Keep in mind, too, that PTC's big push in the past few years has been PLM, not CAD, so that widens the field of potential buyers.
I get it, kind of like donating money to buy a coworker a cake or
something. Sure, why not, I've got an extra ten million bucks I'm not
using.

I used Inventor for years before moving over to Pro/E.
IMHO, I think Autodesk + PTC would make an incredible package. Drawing from Inventor + modeling & surfacing from Pro/E.
