Laptop Benchmarks -

We are looking at purchasing some mobile workstations and my supervisor
wants to see some numbers comparing the machines that we are
considering. Our IS department wants us to go with IBM since they are
comfortable (read: we've always done it that way) however in doing some
research on the 'net, Dell's M60 looks like a smokin' fast machine.

Do any of you out there have a Dell M60, IBM R50p or T41P and would
like to run the OCUS v4.0 benchmark over at www.proesite.com and let me
see some numbers?

We are running Wildfire and are looking at WF 2.0.

Thanks.

One of the key things to look at is the graphics card, or chipset in the
case of a laptop, that it has. You're pretty limited in the "workstation"
type graphics you can get in a laptop. Purists will insist that using a
"gaming" graphics processor is not the way to go. For limited usage,
they'll surely do just fine.

Do you intend to use these as your primary workstations ??

The Dell model uses the New Quadro FX chipset with 128 MB of graphics
memory. This is a Laptop version the workstation chipset. My boss has an
M60 as his primary workstation for home and travel and says that it rips
for a laptop..

I use a HP/Compaq nw8000 with Pentium M 1.7GHz, 1 gig ram, ATI Mobility Fire
GL T2 graphics with 128Mb ram. It is just as fast on regen as my old Compaq
W6000 2.4GHz. The initial file load times are a little slower because of
the 7200 rpm HD instead of the 15000 rpm SCSI. I would recommend getting
1.5 gig of ram if running on Windows XP.
