Pro man VS Mastercam

Pro man VS Mastercam

Version 7 is nothing like the newer versions of X2/X3. They are trying to make the interface look like pro/nc if you ask me. We have pondered the switch at times but Pro has so much more to offer in my opinion.

Worked with both and hated Pro at first glance... but today I won´t jump into MC because Pro offers much more being a true CAx app... you are going to see how handicapped MC is compared to Pro... a section to see and internal machining might be a pain in the ass... and the standalone verification sucks... you are better with CLPlayer and Vericut... BTW, by far better...

Post-processors are easy to modify and enhance compared with FIL anguage, but it´s all about practice. FIL is more powerful and faster in my humble opinion, but MP Language is one of the best things about Mastercam post-processors. If the PPs are the biggest prize, then Mastercam might be a good choice... but for CAM... it is an awesome tool... however it´s not that good to justify the jump... the CAM i pretty good but you are going to miss the CAD capabilities of Pro...

The interface has change dramatically since 7, 8 9. Still easy to learn.
The good thing about it is that you can learn as you go and be making parts
the first day. If you can use Pro Man you should able to use MCAM.
However, If you have a lot changes and large assemblies you might want stick
with PTC. If you blend both packages, get the best both worlds. Expensive
to do that. Especially if you need/use 4th and 5th axis. MasterCAM change
the pricing beginning with X3. Full 5th axis now around $16,000.00

The way I read this, it appears as if Terry is thinking of switching jobs, not dumping ProNC. He is implying that most of the places at which he will apply will probably be running MasterCam instead of Pro......so he will have no say in the software package.

I don't see the attraction of going to mastercam. If you have a pro/e part
Pro/NC is much better as it is parametric. If mastercam is better I would
be interested in finding out what features make it better. If I could see
proof that it would be more productive I will listen. My guess is the
learning curve would be the same for either if you had never touched a full
cam package.

Hi Ron,

Even being a Pro/Nc fan boy I could not say it is that the learning curves of both packages are similar. Pro/NC is a totally different animal... and in some situations it is not intuitive at all... 6 years ago I learned MC as a self-taught... I don't think I could do it with Pro/NC...

Pro/E has many advantages and cons compared to MC; the same is truth on MC side. I think that we cannot described in a post what would they be and keep unbiased at all. Too different beasts in my humble opinion...
