Senior Mechanical Engineer - Competition 2010-12 - Calgary, AB, Canada

NAIAD is an integrated engineering company based in Calgary, Alberta. Founded out of a passion for the art of engineering. NAIAD is about CAD, CAE, FEA, CFD, FSI, design, engineering, simulations, project management and software solutions from PTC and ANSYS. NAIAD corrals risks to turn them into profitability. Clients who choose to face reality rather than gamble on faith seek answers, not mere results. NAIAD secures their return on investment.

The Position:
The Machine Science Group of the Technical Services Division has an opening for a seasoned engineer to work on a variety of assignments anchored at Naiad’s core engineering activities: product development, machine design, system engineering and analytics. This is a “hardcore” engineering position requiring the incumbent to fully understand the physics of the problem, develop mathematical models, and engineer solutions from pertinent theoretical, analytical and applied tool simulations. Assignments arise from all four of NAIAD’s main sectors of activities: aerospace, defence, energy and manufacturing. Security clearance requirements for some classified projects necessitate Canadian citizenship as requisite for the position.

The position is located in Calgary, Alberta and is open to professional engineers with at least 8 years of P.Eng. practice in the design, selection and manufacturing of high precision mechanical components ideally related to either aerospace or defence systems. The incumbent must be a trained expert in the daily use of Ansys, Abacus or Nastran on non-linear (materials and modeling) analyses.

The Mandatory Requirements:
The position is available to professional engineers registered in at least one provincial jurisdiction in Canada. Mandatory qualifications include:

  • Mechanical engineering or physics degree from a recognized University, with a focus on mechanical component design in demanding environments (high precision, tight tolerances, high stresses and temperatures, corrosion and erosion, etc).
  • P.Eng. registration in at least one Canadian jurisdiction.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the manufacturing of such components, along with a demonstrated expertise in the selection of related steel fabrication processes.
  • A minimum of eight years of demonstrable experience in the use of Ansys, Abacus or Nastran software to simulate the physics underlying machine component behaviour.
  • A minimum of three years of project supervision/management experience, leading a small team of designers and engineers, across a product’s supply chain history.
  • Public-speaking grade English mastery, both written and spoken.
