I know that some of you have begun playing around with the new functionality in PTC Creo 3.0 M040. And some questions are coming up about how it works, who gets access and what enhancements are coming out next.
Unfortunately I don’t have answers on the last part. But, from what I hear, the plans for PTC Creo 4.0 are exciting. Now, back to those first two questions. Here’s the deal with the new functionality:
How does the new functionality work?
The new design for additive manufacturing (aka 3D Printing) features, are meant to make your life significantly easier when you’re designing and printing. What that means for you is that you can:
- Connect and define settings for multiple printers
- Reduce errors by identifying printability issues before you print
- Scale, position, and show a clipped view of the model and probable support material on the tray with a “print preview”
- Save the CAD data, model translation, and position in the tray as one STL file
If you have a Stratasys Connex Printer can do even more directly from PTC Creo Parametric:
- Print parts and assemblies just like you would print a word document from Microsoft Word
- Choose materials, colors, and finishes
- Waste less material by automatically optimizing the position of the model in the printing tray
- Calculate the required amount of build and support materials before you hit print

Who gets access?
Everyone gets access! ... Well, not quite everyone.
Those of you that have already upgraded to PTC Creo 3.0 M040 are in luck. The ‘Design for Additive Manufacturing’ capabilities are included for no additional price in PTC Creo 3.0 M040.
For everyone else, say those on PTC Creo 3.0 M020, you won’t get the upgrade if you're not on active maintenance. You may want to consult with your admin about the upgrade to PTC Creo 3.0 M040.
