Community Tip - Did you get an answer that solved your problem? Please mark it as an Accepted Solution so others with the same problem can find the answer easily. X

Allow strikeouts in equations to show how variables in numerator and denominator cancel out.

Allow strikeouts in equations to show how variables in numerator and denominator cancel out.

For equations which use the "Control-Equal" (not "live" equations), add ability to show how variables are cancelled out when they're in the numerator and denominator.  This makes it easy to show customers and other engineers and management how developing equations are simplified.

I work for a defense company, and we'd rather not disclose information about ourselves. It may not even be legal to do so.

Please understand. We just want Mathcad to work better for us, as well as everyone else.

Thanks.

I have two places that I would use this feature.

  1. In the classroom.  I use Mathcad for Engineering calculation examples in the classroom because... Well, you don't want to see what my writing looks like on the whiteboard.  Sometimes these examples include derivations of the equations used.  It makes the process clear.
  2. Professionally.  I have standard calculations for rather involved systems that get submitted as part of an approval package prior to building.  In some cases, customers actually review my calculations.  Then having a method of clearly deriving the equations makes the understanding easier.

Hello,

Thank you for your idea and the information you provided.

I do this all the time by just overlaying a text region with a "/" character in it.  Unfortunately, once in a while, the text goes under the equation instead of over it, ruining the effect.  I haven't figured out how to fix it when it messes up like that.  Maybe a Raise and Lower button to allow different objects to be placed above or below another.
