Drop-down functions and related help

Drop-down functions and related help

Hello everyone;

1- I want this; sm.JPG

A drop down menu which help you to find both:

-the function you are looking for and a quick help on it

-assignments you made earlier in your worksheet. It avoid to browse back the whole document to make sure that it was "Diameter" and not "diameter"...

It would be really good and think that Smath studio has already this wonderful feature so hurry please!

In the same way, "Better error messages, with integrated linking to online help" and help on function reachable in one clic.

2-I just past a previous wish; "Symbolics support. The basics (and maybe we can desagree about what's basic) to improve speed. --- Mathcad Prime 1.0 came without symbolic kernel, isn't? Without it I can't figure something useful to do math or engineering calculus"

3- I paste an other wish about graphics "Mathcad should be looking at matching Excel capabilities at least." and a simple sketching tool (at least arrows!)

Regards.

Charles

I would like to know if other users agree the first point. If not, how do you remember the exact way you define new constants? Don't you think that this feature is a must. You see your constants in the drop menu as well as unities and function..

This has been requested by many users for a long time.

They are planned to be included in future releases of Prime.

Been requested 'millions' of times by myself and other collabs.

I can't really say I do to be honest. I try and use varibles which are easier to remember. Try and stick to lower case and always have a capital first letter then you'll know.

An easy way to check the list of used variables has been requested several times. My personal preference would be in a separate window, not as a menu item, though. On similar lines, there have also been several requests for a way to generate a report that shows the dependence tree for all functions and statements.

Ok, I'm slightly coming round to the idea now. The dependence tree would be nice, but would make work sheets complicated IMO.

How about a predictive text for variables. Say if you wrote diameter and it hadn't been defined, it would become red (as it does now) and when you click it you get the following message.

Either - Variable not defined or Diameter, DIAMETER (Suggestions) etc etc assuming those last two variables are defined in the worksheet.

I wouldn't want to see it in the worksheet. I would want to be able to select a variable or function, and then if I ask to see the dependence tree it highlights the relevant regions, and shows the tree in a separate pop-up window.

I'm like that idea. But at the current level Prime is at I cannot see this being implemented any time soon or being very high on PTC's priority list.

It is not even that high on my priority list. I just hope to get it in version N, sometime before I die.

Think it might be touch and go......

Charles,

We are currently implementing symbolics for Mathcad Prime 2.0.

Thanks for your suggestions, which I recorded.

Hello.

First say that I really like Prime. The grid is really usefull and the text block is the best for typing. I can't give an opinion about the ribbon as I haven't used it extensively yet, but it looks cool.

These are for me the biggest lacks:

1- I'd really like to be able to change the decimal dot for a comma.

This is because in Spanish the decimal part of a number is indicated by a comma, instead of a dot as in EUA. It looks really weird for a Spaniard the decimal point, as it is used to indicate thousands (e.g. in Spain 1.000.000,03 means 1*10^6+3*10^(-2) ).

Related to this, it would be usefull to be able to add this separation every three numbers (a dot or a small blank space is usually used: 1.000.000 = 1 000 000 = 1*10^6); though this is not compulsory it makes numbers easier to read.

2- It would be fantastic to be able to export an equation block directly to LaTeX and/or MathML, for using the calculations in publications without having to retype them, and also being able to modfy them with equation formatting software (MathType for insance). It's obvious MathCAD is really good for a draft or a short document, but it's not the tool of choice to write a book.

3- It's really necessary the Operator Display option being translated to Prime. It's unthinkable to print/hand in a document wiht de := and the bold equal and the arrow...

4- It would be nice being able to cusomize the size of the margins, the grid, the headint, the paper size, etc.

Goodbye!

Mike,

Thanks for your feedback. I'll add your requests to our list of feature requests. We plan yearly releases of Mathcad Prime, so will be adding new features for each release.

I'm glad you like the grid. I've been seeing much cleaner and clearer worksheets from users in general.
