How about a licensing procedure that remembers that you have obtained a license while running as an administrator when you attempt to launch the program while running as a user account on the same machine?

It really is just too bad that none of us can bill PTC for all the lost time spent dealing with problems like this.

I have had similiar problems as this.

Is the license file not associated to the physical address of the computer though?

Scott,

What OS are you on?. I think there are issues with MathCAD on Vista where the licence checking code is prevented from talking to the main mathcad code by the OS and its 'sandboxing' of different apps. This is probably exacerbated by different user permissions.

As I understand it is is only V15 M005 that is W7 compliant etc.

Scott,

This should be working correctly. Can you let us know if you are on Vista, Win7, or XP, and which version of Mathcad you are running? I am investigating this right now.

Are you using a license file or a license server?

Quality Assurance just completed testing installing Mathcad 15 and Mathcad Prime 1.0 (not yet released) as an administrator, and having a user account use the same machine.

Everything passed on XP, Vista, and Win 7, both with server licenses and a license file.

Mathcad Prime 1.0 does work if the license file is accessed via remote desktop.

Mona:

Thanks for following up with this, and thanks also to others who replied. PTC sent me a license file that seems to have solved my problem, so a repeat occurence of this issue is for now, unlikely to occur on my set up. For those who may still be trying to understand similair problems in their own set-ups, I am running MCAD15 under Windows 7 64 bit, where I install all programs as administrator but then switch to a user account to (hopefully) provide an extra layer of protection while connected to the internet. My issue was that MCAD would launch ok from the administrator account, but would fail to find the license file when logged in as a user account. Unfortunately, I cannot remember very many details from the install process to determine whether or not a mistake was made at my end, however once MCAD was up and running as adiminstrator, I assumed that I was good to go from any other account I can log into.

Festivious feasting wishes to all.
