Extended Subscript and Superscript notation

Following on from the suggestion that we should have a Hermition Operator, it would be convenient to have user-defined superscript and subscript (left, central and right) parameters. This would be useful for such things as expressing Bessel functions as Jν (x) rather than J(ν,x) and also for tensor / general indexing. This should be coupled to a request for user-defined optional arguments to allow users to create functions in a manner similar to the built-in ∇ operator.

I have said this elsewhere, but I'll add it to this thread. I would like to be able to use range variable notation in subscripts to generate submatrices. It would be more compact, more like standard math notation, and I think more intuitive that the clumsy submatrix function.
