How to get the unity vector length in Mathcad Prime?

Hello,

The length of the vector with components of

sin(x)

cos(x)

can be easily evaluated evaluated to be 1

after putting the vector between the module vertical bars ||

and by pressing sequentially Symbolics-Evaluate-Complex.

However, in Mathcad Prime 2.0 I failed to do the same operation,

and I could NOT get 1. PLEASE HELP TO GET UNITY SYMBOLICALLY!!!

I tried this in MP2, and it worked. I declared a 2x1 column vector, v, and filled it with sin and cos of the same angle. Then selected || from the Operators > Algrbra dropdown, and inserted v. It equaled 1.

edit 20120106: I also tried || || from Operators > Vector and Matrix, and that worked. I also tried norm2() and was disappointed again to see that norm2() requires a square vector.

Thank you for checking it out.

However, I got only the square root of the sum (see picture),

to which the symbolic operator with "combine" or "simplify" keywords did NOT work.vector.gif

I expected to get 1 as you say. Please help to understand, why I did not get it?

Actually, as you have it written, it should not simplify to 1. For that simplification to be correct, x must be real. Unfortunately, even if I add an "assume, x=real", I cannot get it to simplify, even with other keywords.
