Move horizontal with the mouse wheel (similar to vertical direction).

 

Additional:

Move horizontal and vertical with Key (e.g. Space) + left mouse button

Zoom/scale with mouse wheel or Key + mouse button

(similar to 2D-Cad or Acrobat...)

 

From onother point of view: Imagine in a 2D Cad you have to soom and move like in Mathcad - how uncomfortably.
