Nested array definition

Nested array definition

I know this has probably been mentioned before, but a search didn't turn up anything in this group.

I agree that we should have at least a three dimensional array so that we can refer to a point in 3D space (at least). The nested concept actually makes some sense to me for an attribute at that point, say a composition vector. But what I don't like is that I can't (or haven't figured out how to) define the nested array on the whiteboard. It can only be defined in a program. Further, the definition has to occur one "level at a time".

Most of you know what I mean, but the attached file demonstrates.

This one dates back to at least 07 August 2004 and Mathcad 11 ... http://communities.ptc.com/message/45419#45419 ... meaning that in 8 years it's not been addressed in Mathcad versions 12, 13, 14, 15, Prime 1 or Prime 2.

I think it predates that.

That should read "I sometimes feel like every feature suggestion ever made gets put on a "Hah! When Hell freezes over!" List."

This is pretty basic. I'll be disappointed if it does not show up in MP3. When I need MDA, I turn to MATLAB, which makes it so easy.

Actually, back in 1964 BASIC only supported 2D arrays: http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/dartmouth/BASIC_Oct64.pdf

Of course, BASIC has improved a bit since then.

Manual creating nestted array (3D space) in Mathcad 15 and in Prime:

Valery,

You have demonstrated the manual method for creating a nested array. That array can not be used until the elements are supplied manually. As my example in the original post shows, I want to create the nested array using a mathematical formula to assign the values to each element, without using the programming feature, only the whiteboard. This operation can be done for a 2D, un-nested array, but not for a nested array. As others have reported, this feature has been requested for a long time.

May be so

Your method uses the programming feature.
